Scientific Manuscript Editing

Leapman provides in-depth scientific editing services to support authors in strengthening the structure, clarity, and presentation of their scholarly manuscripts. This service combines comprehensive editorial analysis with strategic guidance to enhance the overall quality and coherence of research documents intended for peer-reviewed journals or competitive funding applications.

1. Scope of Service

Scientific Editing is available for:

  • Original research articles;

  • Review manuscripts;

  • Grant proposals and related scientific reports.

The service is intended for content in the natural and physical sciences, including but not limited to biology, medicine, chemistry, physics, earth and environmental sciences, and engineering.

2. Editorial Methodology

Scientific Editing at Leapman is conducted by a qualified team of subject-specialist editors who follow a structured, multi-phase editorial workflow:

2.1 Editorial Review and Team Assessment

Each submission is first reviewed collaboratively by the scientific editing team to identify structural, conceptual, and communicative priorities. Editors assess both the main manuscript and any supplementary materials, such as cover letters or reviewer response documents, in order to provide holistic editorial advice.

Editors evaluate the manuscript from the perspective of its intended academic audience, considering how journal editors, peer reviewers, and general readers are likely to interpret its content.

2.2 Developmental and Strategic Editing

Following the team review, the manuscript undergoes detailed developmental editing. This includes:

  • Reorganization or clarification of logical structure, including improvements to flow, transitions, and internal consistency;

  • Highlighting of key findings and refinement of how scientific implications are conveyed;

  • Strategic recommendations for strengthening argumentation, narrative clarity, and emphasis;

  • Line-level language editing to improve scientific grammar, word choice, and precision of expression;

  • Comments on sections requiring author revision to enhance clarity or completeness.

This phase integrates linguistic polishing with scientific communication analysis, ensuring that the manuscript is both accurate and effectively structured.

2.3 Editorial Report

Upon completion, authors receive a written report (typically 3 to 6 pages) detailing:

  • The key areas addressed during editing and rationale for changes;

  • Editorial observations on clarity, narrative emphasis, and structural cohesion;

  • Suggestions for further improvement, if applicable;

  • Feedback on any supplementary materials reviewed;

  • Reflections on how the manuscript may be received by target audiences, including reviewers and editors.

3. Follow-up Support

Authors who revise their manuscript based on Scientific Editing recommendations are entitled to one complimentary follow-up English language edit, which focuses on grammar, phrasing, and technical correctness in the revised version. This follow-up service must be requested within six months of the initial editorial delivery.

If desired, authors may also choose to combine Scientific Editing with Leapman’s Manuscript Formatting service, which ensures alignment with specific journal submission requirements.

4. Editorial Team Qualifications

All editors engaged in Leapman’s Scientific Editing service:

  • Hold doctoral or equivalent advanced degrees in relevant scientific disciplines;

  • Are experienced in both academic publishing and substantive editing of technical manuscripts;

  • Undergo rigorous quality assessment and continuous editorial training;

  • Work exclusively on content within their domain of expertise.

Assignments are made to ensure alignment between the subject matter of the submission and the academic background of the editorial team.

5. Confidentiality and Intellectual Property

All materials submitted to Leapman are handled with strict confidentiality. Documents are accessed only by editorial personnel directly involved in the editing process.

Leapman does not share, distribute, or disclose any part of a manuscript to third parties. Authors retain full control and ownership of their content throughout and after the editorial process.

6. Ethical Standards

Leapman adheres to internationally recognized standards for ethical scholarly communication. In delivering Scientific Editing services, we observe the following principles:

  • We do not participate in any stage of journal peer review, editorial decision-making, or manuscript submission;

  • We do not guarantee publication, funding, or any outcome related to third-party review;

  • We do not modify or add scientific content beyond what is present in the original submission;

  • We do not ghostwrite, restructure scientific claims, or introduce novel interpretations;

  • We do not suggest peer reviewers or recommend journals unless requested, and in such cases, we do not represent any editorial outcome as predictable.

Our editorial input is provided in a transparent, reviewable format to support author autonomy. Authors are encouraged to critically assess all suggested changes prior to implementation.

If potential ethical issues are identified during the editing process (e.g., research integrity concerns or ethical compliance omissions), they are brought to the author’s attention. Leapman reserves the right to decline editing services in cases involving serious ethical infractions.

7. Quality Guarantee

Manuscripts edited through the Scientific Editing service are eligible for one free re-edit for language correctness after revision by the author. This re-edit must be requested within six months of initial delivery and applies only to documents that remain consistent in structure and scope.

Following this second edit, if a journal cites language quality as the sole reason for rejection, Leapman will re-edit the manuscript once more at no additional cost.
